Home Lighting in Interior Design
Interior designers use home lighting to add ambiance to a room, highlight wall art, brighten up the cookery and other work spaces, and create a visual effect that fits well with the home style, as well as the style or theme of the room design. The diversity of home lighting available today gives both the home owner and the designer numerous choices that will fit every possible function.
Traditionally, the chandelier was created for the dining room, but for a little romance and elegance, designers are thinking outside the box and placing them in the bedroom as well, especially those with delicate crystals. In the dining room, choose from brass, wrought iron, chrome, nickel or glass. And there are designs for every style, from contemporary to French style, to traditional old English style, perfect for the country home. Expect to pay a minimum of £200 for a good quality chandelier.
Table lamp styles have undergone numerous basic design transformations since electric lights were first created, and today, just about anything goes. Many contemporary designs have 50s retro or art deco styling with clean unfussy lines. These styles will work in most decor themes, especially if the designer is going for an eclectic mix in the decor. Expect to pay a minimum of £50 for a good quality contemporary table lamp.
For the kitchen and bathroom, consider directional spotlights. These too are often found with clean lines in a variety of faux metal finishes. The good thing about these spotlights is that the light can be directed to where you need it. They can be found as recessed lighting or to go on walls or ceilings, and there are many styles.
To draw your eyes to the artwork on your walls, consider getting picture lights. They are similar to spotlights, but they have a long light with a dimmer so that the art will stand out without shadow. Expect to pay £50 or higher for good quality picture lights.
No matter what kind of home lighting you are looking for, the choices and styles are endless and searching may be a little daunting. Find fixtures that suit the style of your home and they will light it up beautifully in a way you hadn’t considered.
